Abiman Dickwella HIRIKETIYA

Starting from $700
10 guests
4 rooms
4 bathrooms

Abiman sits elevated on a quiet stretch of Sri Lanka's southern coastline near Dickwella, its four bedrooms arranged across a main house and a separate standalone building connected by a covered colonnaded walkway, with the salt-water infinity pool positioned between them and the Indian Ocean visible through the palm canopy from every part of the garden. The villa was built by its Swedish and English owners with a specific conviction: that a house on a beach in Sri Lanka should look and feel like it belongs there. Every piece of furniture and every textile inside the property was made in Sri Lanka. The reclaimed wood and original roofing tiles used throughout carry the weight of that decision in the way that imported materials never quite manage. The result is a villa that feels genuinely settled into its setting rather than placed upon it.

Frequently asked questions

Check our FAQ for details on villa

What is Abiman Dickwella?
Abiman is a fully staffed, four-bedroom beachfront villa on a quiet stretch of Sri Lanka's southern coastline near Dickwella. Built by its Swedish and English owners with all furniture and textiles made in Sri Lanka and reclaimed materials used throughout, the villa is arranged across a main house and a standalone building connected by a covered colonnaded walkway, centred on a salt-water infinity pool with a Jacuzzi. A private garden gate opens directly onto a wide sandy beach that is a sea turtle nesting site.
What room types are available?
Abiman has four ensuite bedrooms, all sea-facing with four-poster beds, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and both indoor and outdoor showers. Two bedrooms are in the main house with double doors opening directly to the ocean view. The other two are in the standalone building connected to the main house by a covered colonnaded walkway. All four are decorated with Sri Lankan artwork, bold painted accents, and locally made textiles.
Is there a resident cook?
Yes. A resident cook is included throughout the stay and prepares breakfast daily as part of the villa rate. All other meals, including lunch, dinner, snacks, and beach barbecues, can be arranged at a small cooking fee plus the cost of ingredients. The cook prepares Sri Lankan and international cuisine and discusses menu preferences with guests each morning. The villa has two kitchens.
Can we see sea turtles?
The beach directly in front of Abiman is a sea turtle nesting site. Guests who arrive at the right time of year have watched turtles nesting and hatchlings reaching the water from the garden. Staff will guide guests on how to observe without disturbing the turtles. It is one of the most remarked-upon experiences of any stay at this villa.
Is the beach good for swimming?
The villa's own beach is wide and sandy and excellent for long walks, but the sea conditions here can be stronger than sheltered beaches. Talalla Beach, 10 minutes away, is a calmer option for swimming. Hiriketiya, also 10 minutes in the other direction, is a beautiful bay suited to surfing for all levels and has a good selection of cafes and surf schools. The salt-water infinity pool is available and lit for evening swimming throughout the stay.
How far is Abiman from Hiriketiya?
Hiriketiya Beach is approximately 8 kilometres from the villa, around 10 minutes by tuk-tuk or car. It is one of the most popular surf beaches on the south coast, suited to beginners and experienced surfers, with a relaxed cafe scene around the bay. Several surf schools operate from the beach and board rentals are available. The villa's own beach and pool provide the quieter alternative for days that call for it.
Is Abiman Dickwella family-friendly?
Yes. The villa sleeps up to 10 guests and is particularly well suited to families. The salt-water pool has a Jacuzzi and a dedicated shallow area for children. The library and board games cabinet are stocked for all ages. The cook adapts menus for children on request. The garden and beach provide generous outdoor space. The sea turtle nesting is one of those experiences that stays with children for considerably longer than the pool.
