Asaya Sands Mirissa MIRISSA

Starting from $260
28 guests
14 rooms
14 bathrooms

Asaya Sands sits directly on Thalaramba Secret Beach, a quiet stretch of Mirissa's southern coastline that most visitors to the main beach never find. The property is built around six private A-frame chalets and 14 bespoke rooms, all constructed in natural teak and woven rattan, with floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the interiors with ocean light and frame views of the pool and the sea beyond. The architecture is immediately distinctive: sharp angular rooflines that rise into points above each chalet, giving the property a visual identity unlike anything else on the south coast. At dusk, when the pool is lit and the chalets glow against the palms and the darkening sky, the exterior photographs that guests take from the pool deck have a quality that requires no editing.

Frequently asked questions

What is Asaya Sands Mirissa?
Asaya Sands is a 14-room boutique beachfront hotel on Thalaramba Secret Beach in Mirissa, on Sri Lanka's southern coast. The property is built around six private A-frame chalets in natural teak and woven rattan, with a central freshwater pool, a standalone restaurant, co-working facilities, and direct beach access. It was designed for both leisure travellers and location-independent professionals, and its combination of serious work infrastructure and a beachfront setting has attracted a dedicated returning community.
What room types are available?
Asaya Sands has 14 rooms across six A-frame chalets, available as king rooms and twin rooms. All rooms have vaulted A-frame ceilings, warm timber joinery, floor-to-ceiling windows, 43-inch smart TVs, high-speed Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and ensuite bathrooms with glass showers. Selected rooms have direct pool views through their window walls. Some rooms include a private terrace or balcony.
Is there a restaurant on site?
Yes. Asaya Sands has a standalone restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, positioned to face the beach and the Indian Ocean. The menu takes fresh local coastal ingredients seriously, reimagining Sri Lankan favourites with international technique. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, high tea, and cocktails are all available. The bar has a full cocktail list and the outdoor seating is the better of the two options on a clear evening.
Can I do whale watching from Asaya Sands?
Yes. Mirissa Harbour, the departure point for Sri Lanka's most popular whale watching boats, is 2 kilometres from the property, approximately 5 minutes by tuk-tuk. The main season runs from December to April, when blue whales and sperm whales are regularly sighted in the waters off Mirissa. The property team can arrange bookings on request.
Are there co-working facilities?
Yes, and they are more substantial than a standard hotel business centre. Asaya Sands has dedicated hot desks and private meeting rooms with large screens, ergonomic seating, reliable high-speed internet, and charging points throughout. The outdoor lounge area also has Wi-Fi and ocean views, which makes it one of the more pleasant places to work remotely on Sri Lanka's south coast.
Is Asaya Sands family-friendly?
Yes. Children are welcome and the property has a central freshwater pool, direct beach access, and a restaurant with a range of menu options. The beach at Thalaramba is quieter and less crowded than Mirissa's main beach, which makes it more suitable for families with young children. Note that the rocky shoreline is better for beach walking and ocean views than for swimming; Mirissa Beach is 5 minutes by tuk-tuk for calmer swimming conditions.
