Glasshouse Victoria sits elevated in the hills of Digana, an hour east of Kandy, in a wooded acre overlooking the Victoria Reservoir and the Knuckles Mountain Range. The building earns its name completely: 260 degrees of glass enclose the main living and dining spaces, dissolving the boundary between the interior and the surrounding forest, lake, and mountains in a way that makes the architecture feel less like a house and more like a very comfortable observation point placed at the edge of something spectacular. The villa was designed by its English and Australian owners and built with the specific conviction that the view was the asset and the building should serve it rather than compete with it.

What is Glasshouse Victoria Digana?
Glasshouse Victoria is a four-bedroom luxury villa in Digana, an hour east of Kandy in Sri Lanka's Central Highlands. Designed by its English and Australian owners and built on an elevated wooded acre overlooking Victoria Reservoir and the Knuckles Mountain Range, the villa takes its name from the 260 degrees of glass that enclose its main living and dining spaces. An infinity pool faces the reservoir directly. The villa is fully staffed with an exceptional chef and is available for exclusive use by up to eight guests.
What room types are available?
Glasshouse Victoria has four bedroom suites. Two spacious and identical Super King suites face the lake and mountains directly, with built-in wardrobes, polished floors, and the full panoramic view available from the bed. A third Queen suite overlooks one of the two garden ponds and is quieter and more private than the lake-facing rooms. A fourth room is also available. All bedrooms are air-conditioned with ensuite bathrooms.
Is there a chef?
Yes. Chef Kevin is fully staffed at the villa throughout the stay and is cited by name in almost every guest review. Breakfast is included in the rate. Lunch, dinner, and snacks are available at additional cost, with menu preferences discussed on arrival. The kitchen produces both Sri Lankan and Western cuisine using garden produce and local ingredients. The outdoor breakfast table overlooking Victoria Reservoir is one of the villa's most praised experiences.
Can I arrive by seaplane?
Yes. Cinnamon Air operates a seaplane service from Colombo to the Victoria Reservoir seaplane base, approximately 35 minutes by air and 3 kilometres from the villa. It is one of the most dramatic arrival experiences in Sri Lanka: the flight passes over the coastal plains, rises into the Central Highlands, and lands on the still water of the reservoir below the villa. The villa team arranges ground transfers from the seaplane base on request.
What wildlife can I expect to see?
The surrounding woodland is home to 107 bird species. Hornbills visit the windows regularly. Woodpeckers and Mynahs are common. Giant squirrels move through the tree canopy. Occasional monkeys visit the treetops adjacent to the villa. The reservoir below supports a range of water birds. For guests who are serious birdwatchers, the location is exceptional. For guests who simply appreciate the sound of something alive in every direction, it is equally rewarding.
Is Glasshouse Victoria family-friendly?
Yes, with one important note. The villa welcomes children and the wooded grounds and pool are well suited to family groups. Parents should be aware that the villa features extensive glass walls and an open infinity pool that requires close supervision of young children at all times. The chef adapts menus for children on request. The villa accommodates up to eight guests.
What is the access road like?
The road to Glasshouse Victoria is steep and unpaved in sections. Guests driving themselves are advised to use a high-clearance vehicle. The villa team can arrange transfers from Kandy or Colombo, which removes this consideration entirely and is the recommended approach for most guests. The drive through the Victoria area and along the reservoir is scenic regardless of vehicle type.
