Kumu Beach sits on a raised strip of beachfront in Balapitiya, between Bentota and Hikkaduwa, on a stretch of Sri Lanka's southwest coast that sees considerably less traffic than the destinations on either side of it. This is partly by design. The hotel has ten rooms - deliberately, resolutely ten - which means the 23-metre infinity pool is never crowded, the beach feels private, and the staff-to-guest ratio produces the kind of attention that larger properties spend a great deal of money trying to approximate.

How many rooms does Kumu Beach have?
Ten - and that number is deliberate. Kumu Beach was designed as an intimate boutique property where every guest receives genuine attention. The result is a pool that never feels crowded, a beach that feels private and a staff-to-guest ratio that larger hotels cannot replicate.
What are the different room types at Kumu Beach?
There are three room types: the Kumu Bedroom, the Oceanview Bedroom and the Oceanview Suite. All ten rooms have direct ocean views. The Oceanview Bedrooms and Suites add private balconies or garden terraces and larger ensuite bathrooms. Suites offer the most space and are recommended for guests who want the full Kumu Beach experience.
Is breakfast included at Kumu Beach?
Yes. Rates include a full à la carte breakfast. Daily afternoon tea at 3:30pm and a selection of complimentary soft drinks in the minibar are also included. The kitchen serves lunch and dinner à la carte.
What is the Madu Ganga River Safari?
The Madu Ganga is a 915-hectare coastal wetland system of 64 islands, mangrove forests, Buddhist temples and extraordinary wildlife - monitor lizards, crocodiles, kingfishers, egrets and more. The boat safari launches from Balapitiya, five minutes from the hotel, and takes two to three hours. It is the single most recommended excursion in the area and can be arranged through the hotel.
How far is Kumu Beach from Galle Fort?
Approximately one hour by car. Kumu Beach is well-positioned as a base for day trips to Galle Fort, Hikkaduwa, Bentota and beyond. The hotel can arrange drivers and curated day excursions on request.
Is Kumu Beach suitable for a honeymoon?
It is one of the most consistently recommended honeymoon destinations on Sri Lanka's southwest coast. The intimate scale, ocean-facing rooms, daily happy hour, sunset views and on-site spa create a naturally romantic atmosphere.
