What is Salt and Stone?
Salt and Stone is a three-bedroom oceanfront villa in Ahangama, on Sri Lanka's southern coast between Galle and Weligama. A sleek renovation of an older property, it is finished with warm plaster walls, timber joinery, rattan pendants, and stone basin bathrooms in a contemporary coastal style. The villa has a private pool, direct ocean frontage, and full staff, and sits directly opposite an Ahangama surf break with a sandy beach a short walk along the shoreline.
What room types are available?
Salt and Stone has three ensuite bedrooms, all air-conditioned. Two king bedrooms face the ocean and open directly to the garden and veranda via timber doors. The third bedroom has twin beds and opens to the garden. The master bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and connects to the most distinctive bathroom in the house: pink polished plaster walls, a freestanding oval bathtub, and a separate vanity with an oval mirror. The second bathroom has a tropical plant wall feature with a stone basin.
Is there a chef?
Yes. A chef is included in the villa rate and will prepare meals to order. If you prefer to self-cater, the kitchen is fully equipped for independent cooking. Either arrangement works and can be mixed across the stay.
Can I surf from the villa?
Experienced surfers can access the surf break directly from the oceanfront garden over the boulders at the garden's edge. The stretch directly in front of the villa is rocky rather than sandy, so it is suited to surfers rather than casual swimmers. A sandy beach is a short walk along the shoreline. The well-known breaks at Kabalana and Weligama are both within 10 minutes by tuk-tuk.
How far is Salt and Stone from Galle Fort?
Galle Fort is 18 kilometres from Salt and Stone, approximately 20 minutes by road. The fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 17th-century Dutch ramparts, boutique hotels, galleries, restaurants, and one of the most atmospheric evening walks in the Indian Ocean region.
Is Salt and Stone family-friendly?
Yes. The villa accommodates up to 6 guests and the twin bedroom is well suited for children or travelling companions. The garden is spacious and the chef adapts menus on request. Parents should note that the oceanfront is rocky, not sandy, so young children need supervision near the water. The sandy beach is a short walk along the shoreline.
What dining options are available nearby?
Several restaurants and cafes are within 200 metres of the villa gate. Weligama Bay, 10 minutes by tuk-tuk, has the south coast's most concentrated surf and dining scene with a good range of cafes, beach bars, and restaurants. Galle Fort, 20 minutes west, has some of the finest dining on the southern coast.
