Villa Tres is a renovated Dutch colonial beach house perched above a secluded beach at the southernmost tip of Sri Lanka, 2.7 kilometres from Matara Fort. The house was originally a simple cottage built by a Dutch owner; the current owners have transformed it into what it is today while remaining faithful to its original character. The sweeping L-shaped veranda, the high ceilings and the deep-set timber windows are all original. The Sri Lankan antiques sourced from across the island are not. Every room carries a piece found somewhere else; the effect is of a house that has lived a long life in one specific place.

How many guests does Villa Tres accommodate?
Eight guests across three bedrooms. The Loft on the upper floor has a king bed, two single beds, a private sitting area and its own bathroom; it sleeps four and is ideal for a family or a group wanting a private upper floor. The Poolside Room on the ground floor has a canopied queen bed and direct pool access. The Courtyard Room on the ground floor has a canopied queen bed and opens to the garden with a sea view. All three rooms have private bathrooms.
Is the beach directly accessible from the villa?
Yes. A private stone staircase of thirty-five steps leads from the garden down through the coconut grove to the beach. The beach is secluded, clean and generally empty, particularly in the mornings. It is a good surf beach with waves breaking over sandbars; a surf school operates nearby. Swimming conditions vary seasonally; the team can advise on current conditions.
What does the food experience involve?
The resident chef prepares a spread of Sri Lankan and international options using fresh ingredients sourced from Matara market. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available on request from an A la carte menu; the Sri Lankan rice and curry dinners served under the veranda or on the pool deck are cited as a highlight in virtually every guest review. BBQ evenings can also be arranged. Guests are welcome to bring their own wine and beer; the team will serve it at no extra charge.
Is Villa Tres suitable for families with young children?
Yes, with one important note. The infinity pool has no perimeter fencing, as the fencing would break the view. Special safety arrangements for families with very young children can be made on request; confirm this requirement at booking and the team will have appropriate measures in place before arrival.
What is the nearest airport and how long is the transfer?
Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo is approximately two hours thirty minutes by car via the Southern Expressway. The villa team can arrange airport transfers. Matara is also served by the Coastal Railway Line from Colombo Fort station, which runs directly to Matara station; the train journey takes approximately three hours and is one of the more scenic routes in Sri Lanka.
