A UNESCO World Heritage Site of 17th-century Dutch streets, whitewashed mansions and cobblestone lanes that have remained essentially unchanged for three centuries. Is a private pool really that unusual inside Galle Fort?
Yes. The fort's dense colonial street plan and protected UNESCO status makes any significant construction or excavation extremely difficult. Private pools within the fort walls are rare enough that returning guests and reviewers specifically mention it as one of the villa's most distinctive features. Most properties inside the fort either have no pool or share one. 32 Middle Street's courtyard pool is entirely private to villa guests.
How are the three bedrooms configured?
The master bedroom is on the upper floor with its own balcony overlooking the pool - the most requested room. The other two bedrooms are each built on two levels: a sitting area, lounge and ensuite bathroom on the lower floor, with the bed on a raised loft level above accessed by a spiral staircase. This configuration gives each room a generous sense of space and privacy within the villa.
How many guests does 32 Middle Street accommodate?
Up to seven guests across the three bedrooms. The villa is well-suited to groups of friends, multi-generational families and couples travelling together who want a single-property base inside the fort.
Can 32 Middle Street be booked for the whole villa exclusively?
Yes - the villa is always booked exclusively. There are no other guests sharing the property. This is a private villa, not a guesthouse or shared accommodation.
How far is the villa from Galle Fort's main attractions?
Everything within the fort is reachable on foot from 32 Middle Street. The ramparts are ten minutes, the Dutch Reformed Church is five minutes, the cricket stadium and lighthouse are ten to fifteen minutes. The fort is small and navigable without a map after the first morning.
