Casa Lago sits on the southern shore of Koggala Lake, directly opposite a small uninhabited island, in the quiet village of Kathaluwa. Designed in the spirit of Geoffrey Bawa, the villa arranges two open pavilions around a 25-metre pool, with manicured lawns running all the way to the water's edge and a private pontoon extending over the lake. What is Casa Lago?
Casa Lago is a fully staffed, private three-bedroom villa on the shore of Koggala Lake in southern Sri Lanka. The property comprises two separate pavilions arranged around a 25-metre pool, set within a large lakeside garden directly opposite the uninhabited island of Madol Doova.
What room types are available?
Casa Lago has three ensuite bedrooms. The master suite occupies the upper floor of the sleeping pavilion, with a king-sized four-poster bed, private terrace, and panoramic lake views. Bedroom 2 has a king bed, outdoor ensuite bathroom, and garden views. Bedroom 3 has two four-poster single beds and a garden outlook. All rooms are air-conditioned.
Is breakfast included?
Yes. Daily breakfast is included in the villa rate and is prepared by the resident chef. Additional meals are available from a priced menu, and the chef is particularly recommended for Sri Lankan cuisine, including freshly prepared hoppers, curries, and dishes made with fish delivered by local fishermen to the private jetty each morning.
How far is Casa Lago from the beach?
Koggala Beach is approximately 700 metres from the villa gate, roughly a 10-minute walk or a 2-minute tuk-tuk ride. The Koggala seaplane terminal on the lake is also nearby, and the surf breaks of Midigama and Ahangama are about 10 minutes by road.
How far is Casa Lago from Galle Fort?
Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is approximately 20 kilometres from Casa Lago, around a 20-minute drive west along the coastal road. The fort is home to colonial-era ramparts, boutique hotels, galleries, and some of the best restaurants on the south coast.
Is Casa Lago family-friendly?
Yes, Casa Lago is well suited to families. The 25-metre pool is large and the garden is spacious. Parents should note that the villa has direct lake frontage and the water is unsecured, so children must be supervised near the lake at all times. Childcare can be arranged on request through the villa manager.
Can I swim in the lake?
Swimming directly in Koggala Lake from the pontoon is possible, though most guests prefer the villa's 25-metre private pool. The lake is also used for boat trips, kayaking, and fishing, all of which can be arranged through the villa team.
