Cottage Kabalana AHANGAMA

Starting from $850
8 guests
4 rooms
4 bathrooms

Cottage Kabalana sits on the reef-protected beach of Kabalana, a quiet surf village on Sri Lanka's southern coast between Galle and Weligama. The property is a contemporary blend of dark timber, cement, and glass that opens almost entirely to the ocean: bi-folding doors across the main living spaces retract to bring the garden and the sea into every room, and the two outdoor pavilions, one by the pool and one on the beachside, position themselves so that the Indian Ocean is always in front of you. The design is confident and unhurried, built around earthy tones, vaulted ceilings, natural materials, and a collection of colonial antiques, oriental objects, and original artwork that gives the interior genuine character rather than generic hotel comfort.

Check our FAQ for details on villa

What is Cottage Kabalana?
Cottage Kabalana is a four-bedroom beachfront villa in the surf village of Kabalana in Ahangama, on Sri Lanka's southern coast. Built as a contemporary blend of timber, cement, and glass, the villa opens entirely to a large oceanfront garden and sits directly on a reef-protected stretch of beach. It has a private pool, baby pool, two outdoor pavilions, a private chef, and a butler team. It is listed on Ceylon Haven under its longstanding name, Cottage Kabalana.
What room types are available?
Cottage Kabalana has four ensuite bedrooms, all air-conditioned with canopy beds, louvred windows, and natural material finishes. Three bedrooms have king-sized beds; the fourth has twin beds convertible to a king. Each room has its own ensuite bathroom; the stone shower room with a carved timber door is a particular feature. An upstairs TV lounge with cable television, a DVD player, and board games provides a separate common space for the house.
Is breakfast included?
The private chef prepares all meals to order and groceries are charged at cost with no markup, which means guests pay only for what is consumed. There is no set menu and no fixed meal times. The chef is experienced in fresh Sri Lankan seafood, traditional rice and curry, and international cuisine. A beach barbecue under the stars can be arranged on request.
How far is the beach?
Kabalana beach is directly accessible from the garden. The reef-protected shoreline is steps from the villa. The Kabalana surf break, one of the most consistent on the southern coast, is 150 metres away.
How far is Cottage Kabalana from Galle Fort?
Galle Fort is 15 kilometres from Cottage Kabalana, approximately 20 minutes by road. The fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 17th-century Dutch ramparts, boutique hotels, galleries, and some of the most concentrated dining of any destination on the south coast.
What experiences are available from Cottage Kabalana?
Surfing at Kabalana break is 150 metres from the gate. Koggala Lake boat safaris through the mangroves are 5 minutes by road. The villa team can arrange snorkelling, bicycle hire for local exploration, guided market visits to Ahangama's vegetable market and Galle's seafood market, excursions to Galle Fort, whale watching at Mirissa between December and April, and visits to the Rekawa Turtle Sanctuary.
