What is Monara Tangalle?
Monara is a seven-bedroom luxury villa on Seenimodara Road above Mawella Bay, on Sri Lanka's deep south coast between Tangalle and Hiriketiya. Named after the Sinhalese word for peacock, the property is home to resident peacocks that roam the grounds. The villa has a private pool, direct beach access three minutes on foot, an in-house chef, a spa and massage suite, a private yoga space, and ocean views from every room. It sleeps up to 14 guests and can be booked by the room, as a suite, or as a complete private villa.
What are the seven rooms?
The rooms are each named after a natural element. Chandra is the master suite on the ground floor, fully wheelchair accessible. Ganga and Makara are two interconnecting rooms that share a bathroom, forming the family suite — ideal for those travelling with younger children or wanting adjoining accommodation. Tara, Indra, Surya, and Varuna are four ocean-facing upper-floor rooms, all with sea views and private balconies or terraces. Every room has air conditioning, Wi-Fi, premium linens and toiletries, and its own private outdoor space.
Is the beach walkable from the villa?
Yes. Seenimodara Beach and Mawella Beach are three minutes on foot through the coconut grove below the property. Both beaches are sandy, relatively quiet, and swimmable year-round. Hiriketiya Beach, known for its surf breaks, cafes, and yoga scene, is approximately 15 minutes on foot. The villa team can arrange surf lessons, bodyboarding, snorkelling, and boat excursions from either beach.
What food and drink is available?
Breakfast is included daily and alternates between Sri Lankan and continental options each morning. For lunch and dinner, the in-house chef prepares à la carte from a menu that covers fresh seafood specials, plant-forward and vegan dishes, Ayurvedic-inspired menus on request, and international comfort food. Dietary requirements and preferences are accommodated with advance notice. The bar serves a curated wine selection, cocktails, spirits, tropical signatures, fresh juices, mocktails, coffees, and premium teas. Meals can be served anywhere on the property.
What wellness facilities does the villa offer?
The villa has a private spa and massage suite where in-house treatments can be arranged. A dedicated yoga space is available for private sessions, meditation, and breathwork classes. Wellness retreat packages, either seasonal or personalised, can be designed for groups. Scuba diving with a qualified dive master, snorkelling, nature walks, birdwatching, and boat excursions round out the more active options.
Can the whole villa be hired exclusively?
Yes. Monara can be reserved in three ways: by individual room, as a suite, or as a complete private villa for up to 14 guests. Full villa hire gives the group exclusive use of all seven rooms, the pool, gardens, beach access, dining areas, spa, yoga space, and the full villa team throughout the stay.
