The Castle Nuwara Eliya is a newly built castle-style villa set in the hills above Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's highest city and the heart of the central tea country. The building makes its intentions clear from the approach: twin turrets, a half-timbered facade in white and charcoal, a balcony running across the upper floor, and the kind of steeply pitched roofline that belongs more naturally in the Scottish Highlands than in Sri Lanka, which is precisely the point. Nuwara Eliya was the hill station of the British tea planters, and the town still carries that reference in its colonial architecture, its racecourse, and its climate. The Castle takes that reference and extends it into something closer to a European chateau, positioned on an elevated plot with views of the surrounding tea country in every direction.

Frequently asked questions

Check our FAQ for details on villa

What is the setting and elevation like?
The villa sits in the hills above Nuwara Eliya at an elevation where mornings are consistently cool and often misty, afternoons are clear and bright, and evenings are cold enough to warrant the fireplaces that are lit throughout the common areas. The surrounding landscape is tea country in every direction, and the balcony view at dawn, before the mist burns off the valley below, is the detail guests mention most. This is a genuinely different climate from the Sri Lankan coast and from Kandy, and the temperature difference is the reason most guests pack more than they expect to need.
What is the dining like?
The in-house kitchen produces European and international cuisine plated to a standard consistent with the interior. A formal dining room with a chandelier and oval table is the setting for dinner. Breakfast is served daily, and the kitchen adapts to dietary requirements and preferences with advance notice. Soup, plated mains, and dessert courses are all part of the dining programme. Specific menus can be discussed with the villa team at the time of booking.
How far is Horton Plains and World's End?
Horton Plains National Park is approximately 25 kilometres from Nuwara Eliya, around 35 minutes by road. The World's End viewpoint is a sheer escarpment at 2,100 metres with a 1,000-metre drop to the valley below and views, on clear days, across much of the southern coast. Baker's Falls is on the same trail. The walk from the park entrance to World's End and back takes approximately three hours at a comfortable pace. The villa team arranges transport and logistics for the day hike on request.
Is there a golf course nearby?
Nuwara Eliya Golf Club is approximately 10 minutes by road from the villa. The course is an 18-hole layout at over 6,000 feet above sea level, set against the backdrop of the surrounding hills and tea estates, and is one of the highest golf courses in Asia. The colonial-era clubhouse is a destination in its own right. Tee times can be arranged through the villa team.
What is The Castle Nuwara Eliya?
The Castle Nuwara Eliya is a newly built castle-style luxury villa in Sri Lanka's Central Highlands, designed in the manner of a European chateau with twin turrets, a half-timbered facade, a chandelier staircase, and multiple fireplaces. The interior combines antique-style furnishings, cream upholstery, deer head mounts above marble mantles, and contemporary bathrooms with black rain showers. It is positioned on an elevated plot with panoramic views of the surrounding tea country and operates as an exclusive-use rental for one group at a time.
How do guests get to The Castle from Colombo?
By road from Colombo it is approximately four and a half hours. The scenic alternative is the train from Colombo Fort to Nanu Oya, followed by a 20-minute road transfer, and this route is widely recommended as one of the most beautiful rail journeys in Asia, passing through the hill country tea estates and cloud forest on the approach to Nuwara Eliya. The villa team can arrange road transfers from Colombo, Nanu Oya station, or from any point along the route.
