The Divine Villa Talpe GALLE

Starting from $750
12 guests
6 rooms
6 bathrooms

The Divine Villa sits on a hillside in Talpe, a few kilometres east of Galle, on two acres of walled tropical garden overlooking rice paddies and a wide strip of the Indian Ocean. The elevation is the first thing to land: the infinity pool runs along the upper terrace with the ocean directly in the sightline, and the view from the living room, the pool deck, and most of the bedrooms covers enough of the horizon that the word panoramic is the correct one rather than a marketing exaggeration. The villa was designed by Sri Lankan architect Manjula Kalhara de Silva for its French owners, and the result is a building that spans four levels with a confident mix of colonial and contemporary, local antiques and polished stone, and enough individual spaces that a group of twelve can occupy it without feeling like they are sharing the same room.

What is The Divine Villa Talpe?
The Divine Villa is a six-bedroom luxury villa on a hillside in Talpe, east of Galle, set within two acres of walled tropical garden with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and surrounding rice paddies. Designed by Sri Lankan architect Manjula Kalhara de Silva for its French owners, the villa spans four levels connected by a spiral staircase, with an infinity pool, open-air Ambalama bar and restaurant, indoor dining room and library, full-size snooker room, private gym, spa, and yoga studio. It sleeps up to twelve adults, fifteen with children's beds, and comes with a full professional team.
What are the six bedrooms?
The Infinity Room is the hilltop suite with two balconies, a king four-poster bed, and a soaking tub, with views over the ocean and paddy fields. The Geoffrey Bawa Room takes its design cues from the celebrated Sri Lankan architect with antique furnishings and a bathtub ensuite. The Lanka Room has two balconies and a bright, locally inspired interior. The Pavilion Room is the largest at 60 square metres with a rear veranda and high ceilings. The Garden Room has five-metre ceilings and is surrounded by the garden on all sides. The Cosy Room is a ground-floor suite with a private balcony and pool views. All six have air conditioning, ensuite bathrooms, ceiling fans, safety boxes, and Wi-Fi.
What facilities does the villa have beyond the pool?
The villa has more non-pool facilities than most comparable properties on the south coast. The snooker room has a full-size table on the upper floor. The wellness complex adjacent to the main building has a fully equipped private gym, a spa with dedicated treatment rooms, and a separate yoga studio. The open-air Ambalama bar and restaurant serves breakfast and afternoon tea daily. The indoor dining room has a library. The two-acre walled garden has mature tropical plantings including fruit and spice trees.
Is the chef and food included?
Breakfast is included daily and served at the Ambalama or indoors depending on the group's preference. Afternoon tea is also included. The in-house chef sources fresh produce from local markets and prepares additional meals on request at extra cost, adapting menus to dietary requirements and preferences. Sri Lankan specialities, fresh seafood, and international dishes are all available. The food quality is one of the most consistently praised aspects of the villa in guest reviews.
Which beach is closest to the villa?
Dalawella Beach is the nearest recommended swimming beach, approximately four kilometres from the villa and ten minutes by tuk-tuk. It is a turquoise lagoon with a naturally protected reef that allows safe swimming year-round. Talpe Beach, closer at three kilometres, is a quieter local fishing beach. Unawatuna, eight kilometres west, has more beach facilities and snorkelling. The villa team can arrange tuk-tuks to any of these on request.
How far is Galle Fort?
Galle Fort is approximately twelve kilometres from the villa, around fifteen minutes by road. The Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Dutch colonial ramparts, a working lighthouse, boutique hotels, galleries, restaurants, and shops. It is well suited to a half-day or full-day visit. The villa team arranges transfers on request.
