The Villa by Contemporary Ceylon is a seven-room beachfront boutique hotel on the Wadduwa coast, an hour south of Colombo, on a plot of palm-lined lawn that runs directly to the beach. The property is owned and run by the Speldewinde family and carries the character of a privately curated house rather than a managed hotel: art on the walls, a kitchen that sources from local fishermen and market vendors, seasonal menus influenced by the family's own Sunday lunch spreads, and a level of personal attention that most hotels at this scale cannot replicate. The 20-metre natural stone swimming pool sits at the centre of the grounds, flanked by the lawn, the palms, and the Indian Ocean beyond the garden boundary.

The property has a 20-metre natural stone swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a rooftop terrace, direct beach access through a palm-lined lawn, an open-sided dining pavilion, a snooker room, and a full dining programme combining modern Sri Lankan cuisine with international comfort food. It sleeps up to fourteen guests and can be booked room by room or as an exclusive whole.
What are the seven rooms?
The Ocean Suite is the flagship room with 270-degree views of both the property and the ocean, positioned for the full panorama. Two interconnecting Family Suites can be opened as a single large unit, making them well suited to families or multigenerational groups. A ground-floor room has direct access to the pool deck. All seven rooms are individually designed with air conditioning, satellite television, a safe, mini-fridge, coffee station, hairdryer, and Spa Ceylon bath amenities.
What is the food like?
The dining programme is one of the property's defining features. Dinner is a three-course menu combining modern Sri Lankan cooking with international comfort food, with the chefs adapting to dietary requirements on request. Breakfast is a daily choice between Western and Sri Lankan, with viennoiserie, preserves, and fresh fruit alongside. Seasonal rice and curry meals based on the Speldewinde family's own Sunday lunch recipes are a highlight. The bar serves cocktails crafted with local spirits and ingredients. Produce is sourced from local fishermen, market vendors, a nearby egg farm, and the property's own herb and vegetable garden.
Can the whole villa be hired exclusively?
Yes. The Villa by CC is available for exclusive hire for groups of up to fourteen guests across all seven rooms. Exclusive hire gives the group full use of all facilities including the pool, jacuzzi, beach access, dining areas, snooker room, and rooftop terrace, with the full dining and bar programme dedicated to the group. How far is The Villa by CC from Colombo?
The villa is approximately 42 kilometres from Colombo city centre, around one hour by road. Bandaranaike International Airport is 48 kilometres away, approximately 45 minutes depending on traffic. The location makes it a practical choice for a long weekend from Colombo as well as a base for guests flying in and out, with Bentota 30 minutes south and Galle Fort approximately 90 minutes further down the coast.
What is there to do near the villa?
The beach in front of the property is the immediate answer, and the pool and lawn are sufficient for most days. Beyond the property, Kalutara Bodhiya is 8 kilometres north, a sacred stupa on a lagoon promontory that rewards a morning visit. Richmond Castle is 12 kilometres away. Bentota, 28 kilometres south, has river safaris, water sports, and good restaurants. The Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, 38 kilometres south, is a consistently rewarding half-day excursion. Galle Fort is 90 minutes south for those extending the stay into the deep south.
