Villa Salt was designed by Eresh Weerasuriya, one of Sri Lanka's most respected contemporary architects, and it shows from the moment you pass through the carved entrance doors. The building is arranged in a U-shape around a 15-metre infinity pool that appears, from most angles, to merge directly with the Indian Ocean. The visual effect is deliberate. The architecture is entirely about the relationship between the interior and the water outside it, and every design decision from the polished cement floors and whitewashed walls to the full-height glass doors that dissolve the boundary between living room and lawn serves that single purpose.

How many guests does Villa Salt accommodate?
Up to 10 guests across five bedrooms. Three suites are on the ground floor: two garden suites with private terraces opening to the lawn and pool, and one larger family suite. Two further suites are on the upper floor with balconies facing the ocean directly. All five rooms have king beds, ensuite bathrooms, air conditioning, ceiling fans, mosquito nets, an in-room safe and a minibar.
Is the beach safe for swimming?
The beach directly in front of the villa can have stronger currents depending on the season, and the villa team will advise on conditions on arrival. The reef-protected Dalawella lagoon, ten minutes by tuk-tuk, offers calm, safe swimming throughout the year and is one of the most reliable spots on the south coast for encountering sea turtles. The natural rock pools along the Talpe shore also create sheltered shallow swimming areas at low tide.
Is a private chef included?
Chef Kumara is available throughout your stay and is consistently praised in guest reviews for the quality of his cooking. Guests cover the cost of ingredients plus a service charge. The chef prepares Sri Lankan and international dishes to your preference; dietary requirements and special requests are accommodated. Meals can be served indoors, on the terrace, in the garden or poolside.
Can we walk to restaurants from the villa?
Yes. Wijaya Beach restaurant, one of the most celebrated beachside restaurants on the south coast and an institution since 1980, is a two-minute walk along the beach. The Owl and the Pussycat and several other well-regarded restaurants are a short tuk-tuk ride away. The villa's location on the Talpe coast means you have the choice of villa dining or an easy walk to a genuinely good restaurant, which is a combination most beachfront villas on this coast cannot offer.
How far is Galle Fort?
Twenty minutes by car. Most guests make at least one visit; many return for an evening dinner on the ramparts. The villa manager can arrange tuk-tuks or private transfers.
