Editorial policy
The Haven Journal is written by people who live and work in Sri Lanka and who have stayed in the houses they write about. This page explains how it is put together, how often we go back to it, and what we do when we get something wrong.
Who writes it
Every article carries the name of the person who wrote it, with their role and what they know first hand. Nothing is published anonymously.
How it is checked
Articles are read and checked before they go out. Anything specific enough to go out of date is verified against a current source rather than remembered. That means opening times, prices, how long a drive takes, and which villas are available.
How we keep it current
Guides are revisited on a schedule rather than left alone. When a piece is updated, the date on it changes and both dates are shown: when it was first published, and when it was last revised. If an article shows no revision date, it has not been changed since it was published.
News and announcements are not part of that cycle. They describe something that happened on a date and are left as they were written.
Our villas, and saying so
Ceylon Haven rents out villas, and this journal recommends them. When an article points to a house in our collection, that is a house we make money from. We would rather say that plainly than leave you to work it out.
We also write about places, restaurants and operators we have no commercial relationship with at all. Those are included because they are good, and nobody pays to appear here.
Getting it wrong
If something here is inaccurate, tell us and we will correct it. Substantive corrections are made to the article itself and the revision date changes with them. Get in touch.
